Summary of Gentoo council meeting 2022-06-12

Agenda
======
1. Roll call
2. Approval of GLEP 68 update for language tags change [1]
3. Regular arch status review ("arch team health check") [2]
4. Open bugs with council participation [3]
5. Open floor

Roll call
=========
Present: dilfridge, gyakovlev, mattst88, marecki, mgorny (late), sam, ulm

Approval of GLEP 68 update for language tags change
===================================================

ulm summarised the change as essentially allowing language tags such
as lang="pt-BR" in package and category metadata.

Result: 6 yes, 1 abstention (not present in meeting), 0 no. Vote passed.

Regular arch status review ("arch team health check")
=====================================================

The Council periodically reviews the activity of architecture-related activities,
most notably but not exclusively the turnaround time of keywording/stabilisation
requests. This takes place during June and December meetings, with additional sessions
if required.

gyakovlev noted that alpha's profiles had recently been dropped to exp status [4]
by mattst88 because of lack of hardware access for a period.

Council reviewed dilfridge's graphs [5] of bug counts for architecture and
council concluded the situation was adequate. It was noted that MIPS
was struggling with a high bug count and that xen0n is likely to work
on MIPS once loong bringup is completed.

sam and dilfridge noted that s390 recently graduated from exp to stable
profile stability and that being non-exp usually helps keep the situation
on an architecture healthy, as exp tends to breed further depgraph
breakage and the bugs then grow, especially as nattka doesn't (and can't)
provide a sanity check on bugs for exp arches [6].

Open bugs with council participation
====================================

- Bug 834997 - "Missing summaries for 20211114 and 20211212 council meetings""

  dilfridge said he'd handle the missing summaries soon.

- Bug 835165 - "Reimbursement for SSD purchase for Infra 3/14/2022"

  Council had already accepted this (recorded in 2022-05-08 meeting
  summary) but hadn't yet been un-CCed from the bug. Council agreed
  to be un-CCed now.

- Bug 835152 - "Mirror pkgcore/* repos from github"

  As with the previous 2022-05-08 meeting, progress is being made
  by infra on gitlab work, and there was nothing for council to discuss.

  arthurzam noted that https://gitlab.gentoo.org/pkgcore mirroring
  to Gentoo's gitlab had been setup, but no mirroring to the
  primary gitolite instance at git.gentoo.org yet.

  Council agreed to be un-CCed from the bug.

- Bug 176186 - "Gentoo projects file hosting"

  Given there's no active progress on this with some blockers (needing
  to adapt the dev-util/kup adaptations received from the kernel.org sysadmins
  which enable gitolite use), council agreed to be un-CCed from the bug to avoid
  having to raise it every month when it's not actionable from the council's
  perspective.

Open floor
==========

- marecki inquired on progress deploying the new servers [7] for which
  purchase was approved in the 2022-03-13 meeting.

  Infra members (sam and ajak) responded that one of the servers (killdeer)
  had been racked and setup was in-progress. The other machine had not yet
  arrived.

- mattst88 asked mgorny if there was any progress on disbanding the
  Gentoo Foundation and joining an umbrella organization [8].

  mgorny noted that Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC) had rejected
  our request, but there was no other news.
